10 Wedding Cake Ideas That Are Not…Cakes

One of the absolute best decisions you get to make for your wedding is definitely your dessert choice. I mean, choosing your colors and flowers is fun and all, but who doesn’t love tasting a million dessert options? Okay, so maybe not a million, but you get the idea.

Now, what if I told you that it doesn’t even have to be cake? Got your interest?

It is actually quite amazing how many people don’t really like cake, and yet so many assume it is the only option for their own weddings.

Be prepared to be amazed by all of the dessert options below that are NOT cakes. Oh, and I also only picked ones that still LOOKED like a cake, in case you still wanted to keep that traditional tiered vibe. Now you can have the best of both worlds!

Wedding tiered cheesecake with berries

This colorful and fruity tiered dessert is shaped like a wedding cake, but it is actually a cheesecake!

What is fun about this is it brings in the berry look that is so in right now and just makes your mouth start watering by looking at it. You can also make this pretty versatile by either doing more tropical fruits or more berry type fruits. Or, you can change the colors of the fruits to easily fit your wedding colors.

The possibilities are endless!

From cheesecake to…pie! I love how this bride decorated the pies with beautiful flowers that went along with her wedding theme.

Wedding tiered pies

There is something just so comforting about a pie. Hint: it might also be good to serve ice cream with your wedding pies! Mmmmm, now I want Apple Pie a la mode…

wedding chocolate fountain

For all you chocolate lovers out there, here is the ultimate wedding dessert for you…a chocolate fountain! It still even holds true to being shaped like a tiered cake! This is also such a fun dessert because the display possibilities are so unique. Ideally, you will need a variety of fruits, cookies, etc to dip into the chocolate. This will also help keep guests entertained and having fun dipping away while you are off taking all of those pictures. Just be sure they save some chocolate for you!

Orange, peach, and pink wedding macaroons and dessert table

I have to admit, when I was researching for this post, I never even dreamed of having macaroons be an option that would fit this category. However, this is one of those unique photos that inspires, and this bride definitely pulled it off. If macaroons are your thing, be sure to get some that match your wedding colors or gives an ombre affect, and your guests will be ooing and ahhing at your creativity.

Wedding Croqeumbush with pink and white flowers

Ok, hopefully I spell this right…croquembouche! For those of you unaware of this delectable masterpiece of a dessert, it is truly a work of art. I found the idea one day as I was watching one of my favorite food network shows…Master Chef. I got to see first hand as the chefs struggled putting this together exactly how crazy and difficult this dessert is.

Anyways, croquembouche is a French dessert that consists of profiteroles that are pieced together into a cone shape and then delicately wrapped with threads of caramel. I definitely only recommend this one if you have an amazing pro that can get it done and delivered for you. But if you want the ultimate in sophistication and elegance AND want to be unique, this one is for you!

Wedding champagne glasses stacked like a cake

Ok, so this one may not exactly be a dessert, but it was tiered like a cake, people love alcohol at weddings, and I just couldn’t resist making sure my lovely readers didn’t miss this awesome idea. Champagne could be a dessert, right?

Wedding cupcakes with orange and yellow flowers

Cupcakes! This one is not the most unique anymore. A ton of people have jumped on the cupcake bandwagon thanks to Pinterest. However, it really is cute and the bite size mini cakes really are fun for guests. Plus, if you love having a variety of cake flavors, this is the best way to go!

Wedding desserts with pastries

Love pastries? Why not just have a tiered beautiful assortment of various pastries for your guests? The mini morsels are easier to eat and give guests a nice variety of different desserts to try. I mean, why have just cheesecake, cupcakes, or macaroons when you can have all 3 and then some? Plus, this once again gives a ton of display possibilities with colors and shapes.

Wedding cake with truffles

Truffles, chocolate, and cake, oh my! How absolutely stunning is this truffle ball cake? So technically there is still cake under there, but come on, this is sooo not traditional. This allows you to still have your cake, and put a unique spin on it, and eat it too. Genius and delicious!

And then there was the REALLY unique….

But seriously, a donut or rice krispie cake?! Something to think about ladies!
